What exactly is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic, manufactured by Allergan, is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium Botulinum bacterium. It is a non-surgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. During treatment, very low doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles that cause those stubborn lines. The treatment is usually done in about 10 minutes, and no recovery time is needed. Within one to two weeks, you may see an improvement that can last up to 4 months. Results may vary.
How does BOTOX® work?
Those moderate to severe frown lines between your brows form over time as the result of muscle activity. BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected directly into the muscles between your brows. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those persistent lines to form.

When will I see results from a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment?
Within 3 days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows. Lines may continue to improve for up to a month, and results can last for up to 3-4 months. In clinical trials, nearly 90% of men and women rated the improvement in their appearance as moderate-to-better one month after treatment. Those with larger muscles may require more BOTOX®, hence results may vary.

How much BOTOX® Cosmetic will I need?
Dr. Lee treats patients with 20 Units of Botox® for the Glabella (between the eyes) area, 18 Units of Botox® for the Frontalis (forehead) area, and 12 Units of Botox® for the Crow’s Feet (side of eyes) area. This constitutes one whole 50 Unit bottle of Botox. Those with larger muscles will need more BOTOX® Cosmetic to obtain good results, and typically men will need double (or even triple) the standard woman’s BOTOX® Cosmetic dose.
How long does BOTOX® last?
Results from treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic can last for up to 3-4 months. If you discontinue treatment, the frown lines between your brows gradually will look like they did before treatment. Your individual results will vary by your metabolism, but will tend to follow a consistant pattern with the same number of BOTOX® Cosmetic Units used.
Is treatment painful?
Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injecting, Dr. Lee may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. The entire procedure takes just minutes. Many people return directly to work or normal activity following BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment.
How is BOTOX® Cosmetic mixed?
Each bottle of BOTOX® Cosmetic must be mixed with normal saline, so one must be aware that the amount of fluid does not always equal the true amount of BOTOX® Cosmetic. An easy way to compare “apples to apples” is to have your physician document how many “Units of BOTOX® Cosmetic” is used. Always make sure your doctor buys BOTOX® Cosmetic directly from Allergan, the USA manufacturer, to avoid counterfeit knock-offs which do not meet the standard. Remember, there are people useing “fake” BOTOX® Cosmetic in Las Vegas, so if the price is too low (BOTOX® Cosmetic itself is expensive), beware……..
